Case Study: Restoring a Homeowner's Solar System — and Trust

The Promise of Residential Solar is Bright
Homeowners have a growing number of reasons to invest in rooftop solar energy, but choosing the right company is key.
With electricity bills continuing to rise, residential solar has emerged as an affordable, reliable solution for homeowners looking to protect themselves from rate hikes, reduce their bills, and shrink their carbon footprint.
Motivated by these factors — and the promise of a cost-effective, quick and easy installation process, one Mississauga homeowner decided to take the leap and invest in a 6kW Enphase system.
Unfortunately, what began as a straightforward project to reduce household expenses soon turned into a cautionary tale about the importance of quality work — and the value of accountability and communication for solar providers.
Contract Signed, Commitments Broken
A lack of experience and communication can quickly de-rail a residential solar installation.
Once the contract was signed, the homeowner's communication with the provider became sporadic and unreliable, with the installation delayed repeatedly with no explanation. Despite assurances of a quick and seamless process, the homeowner was left in the dark for weeks at a time, with no crews visiting the house and no timeline for completion presented.
When the system was eventually completed, it failed to oblige by the Ontario's Electrical Safety Authority's (ESA) standards. Multiple deficiencies, including code violations serious enough to pose safety risks, rendered the system non-compliant and inoperable. And despite repeatedly reaching out to their assigned project manager (and later, their support contact), it quickly became evident that the company lacked both the technical expertise to meaningfully address the situation.
The homeowner was left with an inactive, non-compliant system for more than three months, during which the original provider continued to operate without accountability, offering no plan to resolve the issues they had caused.
The Solar X Approach
Our team is highly experienced, customer-focused, and quick to respond.
After ongoing frustration and a lack of communication, the homeowner started speaking with local residents that had gone solar, one of which had recently installed an all-black, high-efficiency solar system with Solar X. Having shared their experience, they recommended reaching out for help.
Encouraged by their neighbor, the homeowner contacted our Solar X team. Upon inspecting the system, it became clear that while the solar panels were still functional, nearly every other component needed attention. We promptly replaced the non-compliant inverter with a certified model, upgraded the racking and mounting to meet Ontario's safety standards, and resolved all electrical issues, including faulty wiring, conduit, and grounding.
Additionally, our team installed a state-of-the-art monitoring system at no cost, ensuring the homeowner is able to track their system's performance in real-time, ensuring optimal efficiency.
"When our system failed to work properly, it was incredibly stressful," said Krishna, the affected homeowner. "We felt completely abandoned by our installer, who stopped returning our calls, and had no idea who to turn to."
"When we reached out to Solar X, they were straightforward and quick to act. Within a couple days, their team was on-site inspecting the system, walking us through what had gone wrong, and what was needed to fix it. There was no runaround, just clear communication and follow-through. It was a huge relief to me and my family to finally have someone take our installation's issues seriously and make sure everything was done right."
